Fall in the Finger Lakes

Grab your favorite flannel, bring your appetite, and hit the open road in our gorgeous backyard! There is something undeniably magical about autumn in the Finger Lakes. The air turns crisp, the foliage puts on a brilliant display of reds and golds, and our appetites naturally pivot toward cozy comfort food.
Having lived in Canandaigua for over 50 years, Nolan's co-owner Nick Violas often says there is no better place to call home…or to explore on a brisk fall afternoon. Our staff’s love for the changing seasons and the region’s outdoor landscape is at the heart of our hospitality.
Whether you're looking for a pre-dinner scenic drive or planning a weekend excursion, here are a few of Nolan's favorite local fall destinations to inspire your next adventure.
1. Our Backyard: Canandaigua Lake & Kershaw Park
The Vibe: Sparkling water, walking paths, and cozy patio vibes.
Start your fall outing right here on the north shore of Canandaigua Lake. Take a crisp morning stroll through Kershaw Park to watch the autumn leaves reflect across "The Chosen Spot". Once you've worked up an appetite, swing by Nolan's to refuel. Settle near one of two fireplaces or try one of Chef John Palmeri's monthly culinary specials, created fresh every 30 days.
2. High-Flying Panoramic Views at Bristol Mountain
The Vibe: Panoramic foliage and crisp mountain air.
Just a short, scenic drive from our front door, Bristol Mountain offers autumn Sky Rides that lift you right above the canopy. Taking a chairlift ride up the mountain gives you a 360-degree view of the rolling Bristol Hills in full peak color. It’s leaf-peeping at its absolute finest!
3. Grape Pies & Country Roads in Naples
The Vibe: Sweet seasonal treats and rustic farmstands.
Take a winding drive down to the southern tip of Canandaigua Lake toward Naples. Known for its rich grape harvest, this charming valley is packed with flavor. Grab a famous Naples grape pie from Monica’s or Cindy’s (debate is out!), wander through Joseph's Wayside Market, or pick your own fruit at Jerome’s U-Pick. The picturesque views along the way make the drive just as rewarding as the destination.
4. Nick’s Ultimate Daytrip: Penn Yan & Seneca Farms
The Vibe: Pure Finger Lakes nostalgia and comfort food staples.
If you ask Nick about his personal go-to daytrip drive, he won't hesitate to share his favorite landing spot: taking a leisurely drive over to Penn Yan for a bite at Seneca Farms! Famous for their legendary fried chicken, warm corn fritters, and ice cream, it’s a nostalgic staple that makes any drive around Keuka Lake complete.
5. Pumpkin Picking & Cider Sipping
The Vibe: Classic autumn traditions for the whole family
No autumn in Upstate New York is complete without hunting for the perfect pumpkin or sipping warm apple cider. Local favorites like Pick 'N Patch offer classic family fall activities (apple cider donuts and Honeycrisp apples pictured above!), while a short excursion north lets you explore the Wayne County Apple Tasting Tour for orchards and country market finds.
